Ultherapy®

A Nonsurgical Way to Lift and Tighten Skin in Weymouth, MA

Loose, crepe-like skin on the face, neck, and chest is a common concern for patients who want to maintain a more youthful look. Ultherapy® at Weymouth's South Coast Dermatology uses focused ultrasound therapy to stimulate collagen production with no downtime, addressing the laxity for a firmer, sleeker look. The new collagen stimulated by these waves of energy partners with the healing response of existing collagen to lift and tighten the skin.

Ultrasound has been used safely throughout the medical field for more than 50 years. Based on that same, proven technology, Ultherapy® is FDA approved to lift the skin of the neck, under the chin, along the jowls/jawline, and on the eyebrow. It can also improve lines and wrinkles on the upper chest. Some patients see improvement right away, but more often they see a positive change over a two- to three-month period.

What Happens When We Age?

Years of movement etch lines and wrinkles deeply in the skin. The problem is made worse by genetics and sun damage, which break down collagen, leading to loose and crepe-like skin. On top of that, sun exposure and free radicals also cause poor texture and loss of elasticity. We also lose fat and bone in the midface over time, which reduces structural support and leads to jowls and sagging skin.

How Does Ultherapy® Work?

Ultherapy® stimulates collagen production by delivering safe ultrasound energy to the deeper layers of the skin without needles, cutting, or disrupting the surface. The energy is delivered to the proper layers and at the ideal temperature to trigger natural regeneration processes in the body. New collagen is made with no downtime.

What is Involved in an Ultherapy® Session?

You will first have a consultation with one of our licensed medical aestheticians, who are very skilled in performing Ultherapy® treatments and experienced in addressing your concerns, assessing your skin, and determining if you are a candidate for treatment. Good Ultherapy® candidates have mild to moderate skin laxity in specific areas, creating such problems as a lowered eyebrow line, chest wrinkles, jowls, or sagging under the chin and neck. Once you book your treatment, you will not have to change your skin care regimen or do any preparation.

During your treatment, your skin will be cleansed and ultrasound gel will be applied. The Ultherapy® applicator will be placed against the skin, and our aesthetician will use ultrasound imaging to determine optimal placement of the ultrasound energy. During the treatment, you will feel tiny beats of energy being deposited. Comfort levels vary from person to person. Some patients opt to take 600 mg of ibuprofen before treatment to make the feeling of deposited energy less intense.

How Long Does an Ultherapy® Session Last?

The length of treatment depends on the area being treated. A face and neck procedure typically takes 60 to 90 minutes, while a chest or brow lift treatment takes 30 minutes.

How Many Ultherapy® Treatments Will I Need?

Most patients only require one treatment. Sometimes, patients benefit from additional treatments based on their skin laxity and ability to build new collagen. Remember that skin will continue to age, so future touch ups may help you keep up with your body's natural aging process.

When Will I See Results?

Some patients see an initial tightening as soon as their session is over, but results usually appear gradually, over two to three months, as the collagen regeneration process occurs naturally.

Does Ultherapy® Cause Side Effects?

After your treatment, there is no downtime required! You may appear a little flushed at first, but the redness should disappear within a few hours. You can return to work or other activities right away. Some patients feel a little tenderness or tingling, but this is temporary and mild.

Are There Options Aside from Ultherapy® in Weymouth?
