What is a Laser?
‘LASER’ stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Lasers are sources of high intensity light of a single wavelength that can be used to treat a variety of conditions. How they are used depends on the wavelength, pulse, and fluence (energy output) of the laser being used. Various types of lasers exist. They differ based on what medium produces the laser beam. This determines the wavelength of the laser, its depth of penetration, and thus which conditions that laser can treat.
Ruby lasers produce pulses of visible light at a wavelength of 694 nm. This wavelength is absorbed specifically by melanin and tattoo ink. Thus, the ruby laser is ideal for removal of pigmented lesions and tattoos.
Pulsed Light Treatments
Pulsed Light Therapy with the Alma Harmony system is available at our office. This high-powered light source is similar to laser treatments. A series of treatments is generally required for most outcomes.
- Photofacials: We offer Intense Pulsed Light treatment for sun damage, visible veins, rosacea, and brown-pigmented spots.
ClearLift™, formerly known as Pixel Q-Switch, is a virtually painless, non-ablative approach to laser skin resurfacing. Using 1064 Q-Switched laser technology, patients are enjoying fast, comfortable treatments with visible results and no downtime. Used on all skin types to help rejuvenate the skin as well as address skin conditions such as challenging skin imperfections, hyperpigmentation, melasma, rosacea and much more.
The Vectus Laser is the intelligent choice for fast laser hair removal. A dedicated solution for high-volume hair removal, the Vectus Laser uses optimized technology to provide fast, uniform, permanent hair reduction for the widest range of skin and hair types, without sacrificing comfort.
XTRAC Laser for Psoriasis:
Using a carefully focused beam of laser light delivered through a sophisticated liquid light guide delivery system, the XTRAC system is designed to clear unsightly psoriatic skin plaques quickly and effectively. Because it concentrates light on active lesions, XTRAC allows your health care technician to deliver the high therapeutic doses necessary for rapid clearing without risk to healthy skin.
BLU-U is a non-drug therapy for moderate acne. It is a unique light that kills the P. acnes bacteria in your skin, which thereby diminishes the formation of ‘pimples’ or acne. BLU-U light treatments are gentle and typically well tolerated by patients.
Also known as, Levulan PDT, Blue Light Therapy is a convenient way to treat your Actinic Keratosis (AKs). Aks are rough, textured, dry, scaly patches on the skin that are caused by excessive exposure to ultraviolet light such as sunlight. AKs are pre-cancerous lesions that can occur more often on areas such as the face, scalp, and ears. If left untreated, they may go on to become Squamous Cell Carcinoma.
During this treatment, Levulan Kerastick Topical Solution is applied to the AKs. The solution is then absorbed by the AK cells where it is converted to a chemical that makes the cells extremely sensitive to light. When the AK cells are exposed to the BLU-U, Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy Illuminator, a reaction occurs which destroys the AK cells.
